Getting Started

The Flight Assistant user manual is the most efficient way to get you up to speed with the service and it will give you a very good overview of the various features.

But if you are in a rush and just to make your first flight, here is a 5 step guide that should not take more than 3 minutes to get you in from of a functional application.

  1. Launch the application.
  2. If this is the first time you are using it (or the first time on this device), you will be asked to sign in. Choose your preferred method.
If you did not have a Flight Assistant account before, it will be created for you at this stage.
  3. After signing in, you will be proposed to download maps and data. Accept.
If you missed it, you can go back to the data subscription screen via “My Account > My data subscriptions”
  4. In the list, tick the boxes of the country (or countries) where you usually fly.
It will automatically download the maps (HD or SD based on your subscription) and the aeronautical data (more or less rich based on your subscription).
  5. Go back to the application home page and click “START FLIGHT”.
It will show you the moving map and as soon as the GPS will get a good fix, it will center the map on your location.

That’s it! You are ready for your first flight with Flight Assistant.

You want to go just a bit further, we can only advise you to have a look at the first of our Flight Assistant Lessons that are our very own training program.

Data

What’s in my plan?

The level of data available in each plan varies.
But in a nutshell, the FREE plan just gets airports, the other plans get comprehensive aeronautical data.

On top of that the Basic plan does not contain elevation data which means it will not have any terrain profile or airspace alerts.

1: includes ultra light landing strips for countries where they are freely available (France, Italy)
2: the airspace intrusion alerts are only possible when we have elevation data (as we need to know how high above ground you are).
The dynamic display of the airspaces on the moving map require airspace schedule data.
3: used to draw the flight profile and to display airspace intrusion alerts
4: Standard definition is roughly equivalent to a 1/1 000 000 scale, high definition is roughly equivalent to 1/250 000 scale.

What data is available for my country?

The aeronautical that you pack in your EFB is an important matter and we want to be fully transparent about this.

We do have contracts in place with a number of official aeronautical bodies to access official aeronautical data (Eurocontrol, French SIA, etc.).

Yet, the extent of the data we provide varies on a country basis.
This is because all countries do not make their aeronautical data available to the same level. As well some countries sell the data or airports documents.

We are as well using alternate sources to enhance the aeronautical data for those countries that do only publish partial data.

We are mostly using OurAirports and plan to use OpenFlightMaps in the future.

Maps

What aeronautical maps are available in Flight Assistant?

You can purchase popular aeronautical maps as ‘addons’ to your main subscription plan.

What does it mean? It means that you pay for map usage on a yearly basis.
Most importantly it means that you will always have an up to date map, regardless when you added it to your subscription.

Here is the list of the maps we offer (or we will offer very soon).
