Misleading data for france

Post by Groquik » 18 May 2017, 23:37

Lfnr is marked as an open to traffic airport. It is in fact restricted.
The airport data says no frequency is known but the vac mentions 123.5
Many other airports are A/A with a published frequency of 123.5 in the VAC but FA states that no frequency is known. (This explains why I did not get the frequencies in the flight log)

Lfxi is closed since ....2015 if not before

Many airports in provence are military ones but the icons are depicted in blue.

I will double check the status of LFNR and LFXI in the SIA data.

Re "military airports", this is not something that is part of the airport definition. The airport is either open to public traffic or not.
The "operator" of the airport can be the army or not and a "public" airport can be a military airport, Cuers or Nîmes Garons in South of France for exemple.

And 123,5 is not the actual frequency of the airport.
It just has no control service and pilots are to use the default 123,5 for A/A communication, but the airport actually has no frequency in official data.

Cuers data are on the SIA website, and the VAC states "public air traffic "
Salon data are not on the SIA website. If you llok the AD part, you will find some info about Salon , but no map at all...
It states "GAT/IFR and GAT/VFR upon waiver", whereas for Nimes or Istres there is no such restriction.
If you want the VFR pattern chart (and the location of the transit point), you need to know that there is a dircam website... or use FA2 :)
it states "reserved goverment services"

Furthermore, Salon (along other airbase) is depicted in red in the IGN/SIA map:
geoportail

the German DFS is also using another symbol for military airbase.
German ICAO Legend

but I have to admit that I do not know how it is coded in databases.

side question
you probably get aeronautical data from a provider (jeppesen or others). should we address him/them directly our feedbacks when data are missing?
or do you get incentives when you push bugs to them ? (that would benefit FA2 users !)

Hi Grégoire,
no we are getting the data from Eurocontrol for most countries with some "local enhancements" (AVIOPortolano for Italy, BaseULM for France).

France is a massive exception to this rule as we get ignore completly Euroncontrol for France and use the SIA database.

The issue is that the SIA tends to have their own interpretation of data encoding (though the XML format is the same).

Do you want me to prepare a "lettre de reclamation" for the french SIA?

because I spotted other missing points, or at least not displayed on the map:
LFML NA (you got NB and others for LFML)
costal transit. The waypoint south of Saintes Maries is missing

You not being a client, you won"t have access to the right people.

It would be great if you could compile those issues and send them over to us. We will pass them on to their "data quality" department.
