Custom approach charts

Post by PilotC172 » 04 Aug 2014, 16:11

Hi,

First, I wanted to thank you for this great app and the support you provide here in the forum. I've flying with FlightAssistant for a few weeks now and I am really impressed.
My question is regarding the approach charts in the document bind. Unfortunately the charts for Germany are not available in public, therefore not in FA. But I've exported the charts from my computer in PDF format. To add them to FA, I've already tried to name the PDF file the same style as the french are (downloaded by FA itself): /storage/emulated/0/flightassistant/documents/CHART_VAC_EDDM.pdf
But still, in the Arrival briefing of EDDM it does not show up. Is there some kind of index file which also has to be created?

Thanks for you help!
Rainer

Hmmmh.
Yep, I ca, see why it does not work... I check the database for a document list...

No promises, but I'll try to look into allowing a bypass...

Hope this helps,
JM

Hi Dominik,
that is good that you are reminding this to me now because I am currently putting the final touch to version 1.0 and I think I can pack this into the next release.

I am thinking about making this much easier and much more flexible for the user.

- User documents would be stored into a dedicated directory.
- Based on document name, FA would display an adhoc document name
- CHART_VAC_XYZ.eee => Visual Approach Chart for XYZ
- AIRP_DIAG_XYZ.eee => Airport Diagram for XYZ
- CHART_IAP_XYZ.eee => Instrument approach plate fot XYZ
- CHART_SID_XYZ_name of SID.eee => Standard Instrument Departure named "name of SID" for XYZ
- CHART_STAR_XYZ_name of STAR.eee => Standard Terminal Arrival Route named "name of STAR" for XYZ
- MISC_XYZ_Document name.eee => Other document named "Document name" for XYZ.

Would this fulfil your needs ?

If you think about another documenbt type not coverered here, please do not hesitate to comment here.

Though not actually documented, (sorry about that, I am a bit behind on the doc scene), this feature is actually available already.

There should be a user_documents folder in the flightassistant directory on your SD (or storage).

Just place your documents there, following the below naming convention (note at the moment only PDF, JPG and PNG files (eee) are recongnized:

- CHART_VAC_XYZ.eee => Visual Approach Chart for XYZ
- AIRP_DIAG_XYZ.eee => Airport Diagram for XYZ
- CHART_IAC_XYZ.eee => Instrument approach plate fot XYZ
- CHART_SID_XYZ_name of SID.eee => Standard Instrument Departure named "name of SID" for XYZ
- CHART_STAR_XYZ_name of STAR.eee => Standard Terminal Arrival Route named "name of STAR" for XYZ
- MISC_XYZ_Document name.eee => Other document named "Document name" for XYZ.

Enjoy your flights,
JM

Just a short question to the instrument approach plate...

Do ia have to put it together all in one pdf file? because we had only the one way to name it!?
In that case, the pdf should get a size of (differs from airport to airport) aprox. 1-2 mb ...and in that case, it would need some time load the chart on the tablet...or is there an option to resize (shrink) a pdf file, without loosing quality?

My wish if possilbe:

I can get a hole airport package with IFR+VFR charts... so that i can drop the complete pack, which size is also about 1-2 MB and contains 29 Pages (this is an example). Now it would be nice if FA can slit it up into the serveral plates, like IAC ILS 32 and IAC ILS 14...is this possible, that a pdf reader can read out the different plates an make a access to the them?
Sry for my maybe stupid question

For now, no, You can only have mutiple charts for SID, STARS and "misc"...

.../... But that is your short term solution !!!!

If you save you doc as "MISC_EDXX_IAC ILS 32.pdf", it will appear as "IAC ILS 32" in the doc list for EDXX.

I'll come up with a better solution in a future version ( CHART_IAC_XYZ_name of chart.eee) but you can do it with the above.

Question to the charts format:

What is the best format, for charts? -> best quality to smallest size!?

Jeppesen uses a *.bin format for all charts...is this a kind of kompressed format, which the app can read out!?

Hello,
I migrated to the new version, putting user documents (airport pdf´s) with your name convention in the flightassistantng folder, they do not show up under documents, maybe you can help me troubleshoot that,

merci, Dominik

Hi Dominik,
this should work.

We will issue a minor release earlier next week.

I am writing this down and we will try to have a look at it.

AFAIR this is untouched.
You did put the document in the flightassistantNG folder didn't you ?
flightassistant is for the old version.
